Practical guide
Check an Arabic PDF table after converting it to Excel
A worked checklist for editable PDF tables: Arabic letters, column order, blank cells, decimal values and page headings.
Start with a page that represents the table
Choose a page containing column headings, a long Arabic name, a decimal value and any merged cells. In PDF to Excel, select this page before creating the workbook. A successful text paragraph does not prove that a table has kept its columns. Compare the workbook with the PDF side by side.
Text PDF or scanned table?
If words can be selected in your PDF reader, use the existing text layer first. A photographed table needs Arabic + English OCR enabled. OCR can misread dotted Arabic letters and faint decimal points. A clearer, upright scan helps; changing the output extension alone cannot recover unreadable characters.
Check columns by their headings
For an Arabic table, begin at the rightmost heading and follow one complete row. Confirm that the name, identifier and value stay under their correct headings. An empty source cell should remain empty: do not shift the next value into it. Merged headings may span several columns, so compare the visual table as well as the cell values.
Worked example: letters and numbers
Use these invented values as a checking pattern: name علا; identifier 0012; mark 3.75; note لا يوجد. The lam-alef in علا and لا must stay in reading order. The identifier must keep its leading zeros. The mark should be usable as a number in Excel. These values illustrate what to inspect; they are not a claim that every PDF converts identically.
Distinguish a source error from a conversion error
If the PDF itself displays #N/A, that text belongs to the source. Do not silently replace it with zero or treat it as a calculated Excel result. Compare decimal precision too: a source value displayed as 2.0 should not be mistaken for a missing decimal. Check totals against the original rather than trusting appearance alone.
Review information outside the grid
Compare the document title, page headings, footer notes and highlighted cells. Important information can sit outside the table borders. PDFManage's table handling includes these surrounding text areas where detected; unusual layouts still need checking. After the sample passes, convert the remaining pages and review at least one row from each table.
When a different output is more useful
Choose Word when you need a readable document with paragraphs and a table, rather than calculations. Keep the original PDF for the authoritative page layout. For critical records, verify every name and number before sharing the workbook. Excel conversion is a starting point for editing, not a substitute for checking the source.
Invented example: what to check in Excel
| Field | In the PDF | What to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Name | علا | Lam-alef reading order |
| Identifier | 0012 | Leading zeros as text |
| Mark | 3.75 | Numeric value for calculations |
| Note | لا يوجد | Readable Arabic letters |
| Blank cell | — | Keep it empty; do not shift its neighbour |
